“Hula is the language of the heart, therefore, the heartbeat of the Hawaiian people.”

– King David Kalakaua

Have you been to Hawai’i and attended a luau or saw a hula show and thought to yourself, I would love to do that? Or maybe you just want to “escape” our cold winters and “travel” to the islands every week. Perhaps you are looking for a different activity for exercise. No matter what the reason, we would love to have you escape with us.

At Hawaiian Holiday, we are Polynesian-at-heart, and are very passionate about perpetuating the Hawaiian and Polynesian cultures. We work hard to make sure our halau is portraying authentic dances with the utmost respect. But most of all we are ‘Ohana… Family.

A Hawaiian Holiday haumana (student) has the opportunity to study the various dances of the Polynesian islands including Hawai’i, Tahiti, New Zealand and Samoa.

We learn about the mele (song), the history, the culture and the meaning behind the dances. Cultural dances aren’t just doing dance steps, they are about telling stories and sharing the culture.

Hear what some of our haumana have to say about dancing with Hawaiian Holiday.

We have weekly classes as well as open workshop-based classes. Dance and drumming classes begin several times a year. Wahine (women) and kane (men) are welcome!

always-ohana-group-700x500Classes are held at Gateway Lanes (3414 Gateway Boulevard) on the 4th floor (ground level is the third floor, take the elevator up and the studio is across the hallway).

Wear comfortable clothing and bring a sarong or a pa’u skirt. No need to worry about shoes – we dance barefoot.
